Tattoo Wings

Tattoo Wings
Tattoo Wings

I have seen so many tattoo wings that I’m almost overwhelmed by them. I have seen tattoo wings done on angels, as part of sport logos and placed on peoples back as a single design element. While I think that tattoo wings are a design that can convey a lot of personal meaning and symbolism, I think that in most of the cases people get them for the way they look. And there is certainly nothing wrong with that. But, it does mean that tattoo wings are often a design that is way overused.

With that being said however, I have to admit that I kinda like the tattoo wings in this picture. While the concept is not all that unique, I do think that the execution of it is really quite good. I think the tattoo artist put a lot of detail in the cross element and the wings themselves have a whole lot of detail in them. Each individual feather is gently added and it gives the whole design a new level of realism. I also like the color of this design. I think it’s simple and not over zealous, though personally I would have added a bit more color to it.

Tattoo Fonts

Tattoo Fonts
Tattoo Fonts

In this picture we have a set of tattoo fonts, meaning the size and style of lettering that we may or may not choose to be part of a tattoo that we get. Although to call this tattoo fonts is a bit misleading because what this is actually just one tattoo font. Everything on the sheet is one font in capitols, in smaller case letters and in numerical digits from zero to nine. Everything one needs to write something in this font is right there. Now what font it is exactly we do not know but one can tell it is something from the world of old England.

That is for sure. It looks something like a font I have used before that was called "Gothic" something or other but it is not exactly the same. This one is a bit fancier and has a little more of that style to it.

What font one uses on their tattoo can be very important. A lot of tattoos include things to say like someone’s name, a birth date, a poem, a line from a song and who knows what all. But if someone cannot read the writing on your tattoo then what good is it really? Will the visual alone do the trick? Don’t forget your tattoo fonts.

Horse Tattoos

Horse Tattoos

A horse tattoo captures the beauty and elegance of an animal that has been revered throughout history. There were even some cultures where the horse was worshiped as a god or in the very least an agent of the divine. Symbolizing travel and adventure, horses were well loved and respected by the Native Americans. The animals provided the Americans with the means to leave their tiny communities and venture out and explore the lands and its people. The speed and power of the majestic horses won their respect and admiration. Horses were also believed to act as guides along the spiritual journey.

Since time immemorial, the Native American people and the horse have been closely associated with each other. The strong association springs from the fact that the native Indian community believed that horses symbolized the holy spirits. They believed that horses formed an important part of the ‘Great Circle of Life’. The horse is credited with being a symbol of guidance and strength. And therefore a horse design on your body would convey your feelings of deep respect and fascination for these lovely creatures. So, whether you believe in the horse tattoos deeper symbolism or simply love horses it’s a tattoo that anyone can wear proudly.

Four Leaf Clover Tattoos

Four Leaf Clover Tattoos
Four Leaf Clover Tattoos

Four leaf clover tattoos are designs that are supposed to be good luck. But why is that the case? What is it about four leaf clovers that have made it an enduring symbol of good fortune and good luck. For that answer we have to travel back to Ancient Ireland where the four leaf clover. or shamrock, was used as a charm against evil spirits and ill intentioned leprechauns. Since the shamrock is a genetic mutation that rarely happens, many people began to believe that it was a gift from God to fight the forces of evil.

And even to this day, four leaf clover tattoos are gotten by people who want to keep good luck in their pocket. In fact, some people are so obsessed with good luck that they embellish their four leaf clover tattoo designs with other “lucky” elements such as pots of gold, horseshoes, dice and playing cards.

Other people use the four leaf clover tattoo as a symbol for their heritage. Those born of Irish descent will often get a four leaf clover tattoo that contains one or more elements of Ireland including the flag of Ireland, a crown and even a white dove. No matter what your reason for getting one of these designs however, you can rest assure that it is a timeless classic that will always be received in a positive light.

Butt Tattoos

Butt Tattoos
Butt Tattoos

Butt tattoos are something that seems to be either sexy, comical or downright disturbing. I have seen butt tattoo designs inked on women that were incredibly sexy. One of these designs was a trail of hearts that went around her cheek to the tip of her tailbone. Unfortunately, that is the exception to the rule as most fall in the disturbing or comical category.

I recently saw a butt tattoo that I really threw me for a loop. I just couldn’t figure out if the design was creepy or if it was just funny. Let me tell you a little bit about it. It featured a door tattooed on the guy’s butt crack and it had all of the seven dwarfs walking past it.

What do you think guys, creepy or cool? At first this butt tattoo made me laugh, but then I found it to be a bit disturbing. I have no idea why someone would get a design like that, but to each his own.

Here are a couple of other butt tattoos that I have seen. I hope you enjoy them. “Assburger-Home of the Assburger”, “I Luv Ninjas” and “Bad Ass”. Other butt tattoo designs that I have seen include Pac Man, a croissant reading a newspaper and drinking coffee (hey, I don’t get it either) and a seventeenth century map of the world. Just about anything can be transformed into a butt tattoo, but it seems that people choose the bizarre and the whimsical. As I said earlier, to each his own.

Armband Tattoos

Armband Tattoos
Armband Tattoos

This is your basic celtic tattoo from the iron ages and middle ages of old Europe. The myth about these armband tattoos was that they would keep you safe in the face of danger. Almost all the celtics in Ireland and Scotland would have these type armband tattoos when they went into battle against the English Lords. Their very plain in design and they usually come in black only, not sure why, but that is what you will see most of the time.

Now I have seen lots of armband tattoos with tons of colors and designs, but with the celtic design you will notice black only much, much more than color.

I have seen some with a scroll style design along the top and bottom of the band that looks very nice also. You don’t see very many of them, but I know one tattoo artist that does a great job with his designs. If you are going to get armband tattoos make sure you decide on the right colors, some colors just don’t match and I have seen a few of those lately. Talk about some ugly tattoos, I saw a lady using the colors green and purple in her armband tattoos. Probably the ugliest tattoos I have ever seen.

Armband Tattoos

This tattoo looks just like the waves on a surfer cartoon. The only thing missing is the surfer with the shark coming up right behind him. The surfers of the 60′s brought attention to the armband tattoos with their cut off jeans and their bleach blonde hair. Most of the armband tattoos now days haven’t really changed that much from the 60′s, some have a little more details drawn in, but for the most part, they are still very similar to what they were back then.

I believe in the start of armband tattoos tribes used them as an indicator of how high you were in the tribe leadership, kind of like the armed services do with one bar for Lieutenant and two bars for a Captain.

I think the main surfer dude with armband tattoos was probably the major or the colonel. Now this tattoo is the wavy type, but I personally like the barb wire style tattoo. That is one thing you see a lot of in California, armband tattoos using barbed wire and other sharp instruments of pain such as swords and knives. My favorite is the barbed wire especially since Pamela Anderson made it famous with her movie, Barb Wire.

Aztec Tattoos

Aztec Tattoos
Aztec Tattoos

There are many different forms of Aztec tattoos. To go through the entire list would probably take volumes, much more space then I can afford to spend here. But, there two specific Aztec tattoo that I would like to talk about. The first is concerned with the ones that deal with a specific deity, just like the Aztec tattoo in the picture. And the second is the beloved tribal design. Now, I know that many different people complain about Aztec tribal tattoos. They say that the designs are not as complex as normal tribal tattoos, but I really have to disagree.

There are plenty of tribal Aztec tattoos that are just as beautiful, just as complex as the Polynesian tribal art. Now, the Aztec tattoos that deal with specific deities are really my favorite. And there are a whole host of them to choose from. They are deities that deal with the forces of nature, such as the fire, earth and water. And there are also deities that are represented by the planets and stars. Actually, some people would say that the stars and planets are actual deities but that’s another story. These Aztec tattoos include the Sun and the moon.

Name Tattoos

Name Tattoos

If you have ever considered getting a name tattoo, then you might want to continue reading and think hard about your decision. Name tattoos are an important genre of the tattoo world, but they are not without their drawbacks. Today, we are going to discuss some of the reasons that a person might want to get a name tattoo and the major controversy that surrounds this form of tattooing.

Name tattoos are normally done in order to honor a lost loved one or to show love for a person you are currently with. When used to honor a lost loved one, a name tattoo can really be a beautiful thing. It can show the love that you had for your lost spouse, a child and even a parent.

It can honor a relationship that has meant so much to your life. For those who get one of these tattoos for a current spouse, it can be equally beautiful. It can highlight that special relationship you currently have with a person, whether a lover, spouse or friend.

The controversy that surrounds name tattoos is simple. What if the your relationship ends or changes? This isn’t likely to happen with relationships that you have between your children or your parents, but it can certainly happen between lovers, friends or spouses. Relationships such as these often change, but the tattoo never will. So give your name tattoo a lot of thought before you press the needle to your skin.

Ocean Tattoos

Ocean Tattoos
Ocean Tattoos

Ocean tattoos are used by a variety of people for a variety of different reasons. One person might get an ocean tattoo to express their deep love for the sea. Another person might get an ocean tattoo because they were born under a water sign such as Pisces or Aquarius. Still another person might get an ocean tattoo to show that they are a deep and emotional creature. With these tattoos there is no limit to what can be achieved.

Not only do these tattoos have a myriad of reasons, but they can also be inked in a number of different ways.

A person can get an ocean tattoo design that features only the sea. Or they can get creative and add elements such as birds and fish. If a person is a member of the Navy, then he might get an ocean tattoo that features an anchor. There is no right way or wrong way to get this inked.

These tattoos can also be used to tell a story. There are a large number of mythical stories that can be woven into the design of this tattoo. Consider adding elements such as the journey of Odysseus or the tale of Poseidon. Both of these stories show mankind’s affinity for the ocean and make for very beautiful tattoos.

Tattoos Of Stars

Tattoos Of Stars
Tattoos Of Stars

Tattoos of stars is the subject today. Actually, tattoos of stars isn’t the subject that I’m really going to be talking about directly. No, I want to talk about the complete and total lack of originality people display when they get a tattoo of stars like this inked into their skin. This design is technically proficient but that’s pretty much the only positive that I can say about it. They just made a line of stars that flow along the top of her foot.

And they are all five pointed stars, no variety whatsoever! And to dull it up even more she decided to get this tattoo of stars done in all black. I could look at this design and mistake it for some kind of physical abnormality and not a piece of art. But, I have to give this lady a little credit. There is on redeeming quality about this tattoo design. And that would be the placement. Not only is the top of the foot a cool place to get inked but it’s also a place that is very hard to tattoo. Plus, the foot placement allows this woman to hide this ugly tattoo, which I wish she would do right now.

Ribs Tattoos

Ribs Tattoos
Ribs Tattoos

Getting ribs tattoos can be both a blessing and a curse to the person getting inked. While it is one of the coolest places to get ink done, it is also the area that is the most painful. And it is also a very challenging place for a tattoo artist to lay ink down on. But this all depends on the person’s shape, size and natural curves.

If you still want to get a ribs tattoo design, then here are a few tips for you. One, consider what your pain threshold really is.

While some people have no problems getting one of these ribs tattoos, other people can barely tolerate the inking process, so be sure you are ready for this endeavor. Two, consider the placement of the ribs tattoo. This part of the body offers a really big piece of real estate for you to ink up, so make sure you spend some time considering designs and working things out with your artist. Three, choose a comfortable position. Rib tattoos can take a long time to complete, so be sure that you are in a position that not only gives your artist the room he needs to work, but also is comfortable for you. If you follow all these tips, then you can rest assured that getting your ribs tattoos will be a rewarding process from beginning to end.

Racing Tattoos

Racing Tattoos
Racing Tattoos

Racing tattoos are a great way for a person to express their love of the game or to support a particular race car driver. In the past, it seemed that racing tattoos were very rare. But over the past few decades their popularity has taken off and now more people than ever are sporting racing tattoos. When choosing to get one of these tattoos it is important to figure out which of the two different types of race car tattoos that you want to get; Nascar or dragsters.

I think that most people would be familiar with racing tattoos that fall into the Nascar category.

These tattoo depict one of the Nascar logos or maybe even portraits of famous race car drivers. These tattoos give the tattoo artists a wide latitude in designing the tattoo because any color can be used for them and cool elements can be easily added to it.

Another form of racing tattoos are ones that depict the dragsters of the past. This design is commonly found mostly among men, but more and more women are beginning to get these kind of racing tattoo designs. These tattoos offer the greatest degree of latitude for the designer because an almost endless number of vehicles can be inked in any color of the rainbow.
