Anchor tattoos can be popular designs for anyone who works on the open seas. But, it can also be a design that can be savored by almost anyone. Whether you have a deep love for the ocean or the anchor tattoo is simply a device to reaffirm the qualities you believe yourself to possess, then it can be a striking and symbolically rich symbol. It is also a symbol that has been used in modern tattooing for hundreds of years. The anchor tattoo speaks symbolically of the character of it’s bearer. It says that the person is strong, stable and able to withstand the gale force winds of life.

It can also mean that the person is happy in his station in life and has "anchored" himself by putting down roots. The last thing that an anchor tattoo can speak of is the moral resolve of the bearer, the bearer knows who he is and is confident in his resilience. But, no matter what reason a person gets an anchor tattoo, they can be confident that it’s a well traditioned and historical tattoo design. It’s considered by many to be a classic tattoo. And it’s a design that can be made more impressive by the addition of other classic design elements such as nautical stars, chains and mermaids.

This is a pretty nice anchor tattoo. It’s placement is a little unusual but the design is clear and well done. Especially when you consider that the size of this anchor tattoo is really small. And I imagine that it would have been a little bit painful to put it on that part of the finger considering that it’s right over bone and their is very little flesh over that area. While the black and white design looks nice, I would personally have opted for a little more color.

But, once again the size of this anchor tattoo probably makes that a really tall order and it would be hard to shade in something that size. But, I have seen it done, so it is possible. I don’t know the person who received this design but I am curious as to why they chose it. This tattoo is usually reserved for those who are sailors or sea merchants but it can also have other symbolic meanings. It could be a symbol for resilience. Or perhaps the bearer of this anchor tattoo had a relative who was a sailor in the navy. One never really knows for sure. Every single tattoo is a personal statement known only to the wearer.
