In this tattoo the guy looks like mister atlas trying to lift up the world of basketball. Could be a promotional design to strengthen the game of basketball when they were losing fans or something like that. Or it could be that basketball is so big and popular that this person is going to put the weight of the game all on his shoulders. Hey crazy ideas, but you never know about what the real meaning behind basketball tattoos really means. I would have preferred seeing a specific player as the man holding up the basketball.

I would have used maybe Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant possibly.

I guess a true basketball lover would always use their favorite basketball star no matter who they were. I haven’t really looked to see if a lot of the kids coming out of high school have basketball tattoos, but I am sure quite a few do, since most of them are big time basketball fans. I could see this tattoo being used as a symbol by people that think basketball is the best sport on the planet. Some baseball fans might disagree with that theory, but some people I know can’t live without their basketball games.

Though I’m not really a sports fan, I have come to have a great respect for basketball tattoos. And I have seen quite a few of them. Usually, the type of designs that I see with basketball tattoos are things that are associated with the sport. I mean usually people get things like basketball hoops, basketballs or maybe even names of individual teams. And occasionally you’ll see a ball players portrait or name inked into someone’s skin. But, when people get basketball tattoos they don’t usually stray from these basic elements of the sport.

The guy who got this basketball tattoo stepped his game up quite a bit. He didn’t get the normal elements associated with the sport but decided to mix two totally unrelated genres to make a design that fit his style to a tee. He took a basketball and superimposed it on a cross. Now, how original is that? I think that it showed a lot of imagination. You can see this basketball in the two stages of it’s inking. On the left is the design that is basically just the outline of the tattoo. On the right you can see the finished product complete with vibrant color. Hopefully, a lot of people will see this basketball tattoo and take their designs up to a whole new level.
