Egyptian Tattoos
Egyptian tattoos represent some of the oldest tattoos that have ever been done. Egyptian tattoos were inked on the bodies of pharaohs and priests as early as 2100 BC. They were also inked on the bodies of the recently deceased before they went through the process of mummification. Egyptian tattoos were so popular that they were spread to all corners of the globe and its influence can be seen as far as Persia, Crete and Arabia. One of the first Egyptian tattoo designs that is known to exist was a representation of the god Bes.
Bes was an Egyptian god who was revered among dancing girls and musicians and was known as the patron god of revelry. This Egyptian tattoo design has been found on some of the earliest found mummies and is believed to have been placed on the thighs of dancers and musicians. Today, Egyptian tattoo designs are once again coming into vogue. Many of the designs that are now popular incorporate images of ancient Egyptian gods, hieroglyphics and symbols. Some of the most popular symbols include the Eye of Horus, the Anubis and the Ankh. The combination of these Egyptian tattoo design elements creates a unique and diverse collection of art that is beautiful on just about anybody. |
