Gargoyle Tattoos

Gargoyle tattoos may appear to be scary and grotesque in appearance but there true nature couldn’t be more opposite. Gargoyle tattoos represent the creatures that were placed atop buildings during the Middle Ages and were used to ward off evil spirits. For this very reason, gargoyle tattoos have become the number one choice for those looking for a little protection in their lives.

Gargoyle tattoos can be done in just about any style, but they are most often done in a Gothic style. They are often inked in dark shades of black, gray or brown and are usually posed in a hunching stance.

The gargoyles in these tattoos are often shown with scary faces that depict fangs and a less than friendly temperament. They can be placed alone or in scenes with them sitting atop churches, castles or even tombstones.

Many gargoyle tattoos blend the various types of gargoyles that are found in different cultures together in one grouping. In these tattoos one would see European gargoyles sitting next to Celtic and Japanese gargoyles. This creates a great effect that is both disconcerting and unified all at once. It also makes for a gargoyle tattoo that can be a lot less fearsome than the traditional Gothic gargoyle designs.
