As the design in the picture shows, hand tattoos can not only be beautiful but can have an immediate visual effect on the observer. The unusual placement also makes the hand tattoo somewhat of an oddity as well. But, getting a hand tattoo is never something that should be taken lightly. There are many negatives to getting ink on this part of the body so it’s something that requires a lot of planning and forethought. The biggest drawback is social acceptance of the tattoo. I know that at first glance that may seem contrary to the whole purpose of getting a tattoo.

After all the whole idea behind getting a tattoo is to be rebellious, right? But, that rebellion doesn’t do you a whole lot of good if you are shunned by people that you meet or your future employer won’t hire you. Another thing to consider before getting a hand tattoo is your pain tolerance. That part of your body is particularly bony, with very little tissue to cushion the pinch of the needle. But, don’t let me burst your bubble. If you take all these factors into consideration then there is no reason why you can’t get a hand tattoo that you will enjoy for the rest of your life.

Tattooing the hands can be a very painful and fruitless process. Many tattoos on the hand fade quickly over a shorter period of time as opposed to other locations. Yet still many thousands of people will get hand tattoos. And if you one of those who are looking for a hand tattoo then you have several different styles to choose from. A popular form of hand tattoos is called the slave tattoo. The tattoo begins around the wrist, goes completely around, and is then connected to a tattoo on the finger.

Many of these tattoos are on top of the hand and typically go from the middle finger at the first knuckle, and over the top of the hand to the wrist. Other popular hand tattoos involve marriage as the subject matter. Many couples, in addition to the traditional rings, will get ring tattoos on the appropriate fingers. You can also combine several designs together in order to make something unique. A string of crosses could be combined with thorns to create a religious tattoo. You could use the same technique to combine hearts with thorns or barbed wire. Or you can keep it simple like the rose hand tattoo in the picture.
