Mexican Tattoos

Many people get Mexican tattoos for one reason and one reason only, ancestral pride. But that is not always the only reason. Mexico has an incredible history and colorful art that seems to draw people from every ethnicity to Mexican tattoos.

Some Mexican tattoos feature iconic images from the country which include the national flag, Aztec symbols and even religious symbols. Aztec symbols are almost always brilliantly done and depict the gods in elaborately decorated armor with brilliant color. One of the most common Aztec gods that are featured in Mexican tattoos is the god of the sun, Huitzilopochtli.

Religious symbols are almost always a part of Mexican tattoos. A primary religious design element is Our Lady of Guadalupe, otherwise known as Nuestra Seńora de Guadalupe in the native language. This icon dates from the sixteenth century and is considered to be a very special and prized religious symbol. She is often represented as a beautifully adorned woman with her hands folded in prayer and her head bowed. Mexican tattoos that contain her image are often done in beautiful shades of red and gold. When combined with other iconic images she can make for one really impressive tattoo on just about anybody.
