Pacific Northwest Tattoos
| An interesting form of body art that is being used by many people nowadays are Pacific Northwest tattoos. Pacific Northwest tattoo designs incorporate the artwork from many of the Native American tribes that can be found in that part of the United States and make for some really beautiful designs. Some of these designs are simplistic in their execution, while others are fairly complex. And they contain a number of symbols which have great meaning to the tribes that designed them.
A common element in Pacific Northwest tattoos are the Thunderbird.
A Thunderbird is a large flying creature that seems to be a mix between an animal and a bird. Though it is most common to the Pacific Northwest portion of the United States, this symbol can be found in other cultures around the world including the Mesopotamia and Mayan cultures. In Pacific Northwest tattoos, the Thunderbird appears to be more birdlike than in representations found in other cultures. Another element that is common in Pacific Northwest tattoos is the Oolala. The Oolala was a symbolic creature that is half man and half bird. This mythical creature was believed by the Native American tribes of the Pacific Northwest to be the cause of thunder and as such was often pictured among clouds or mountain peaks. |
