Swallow tattoos are quickly becoming very popular among many different groups of people. Particularly, sailors and rock-a-billy women. Even the tattoos with nautical star designs are becoming hot. You can even try mixing the different patterns. Combination of a few patterns results in wonderful and attractive tattoo designs. And swallow tattoos have a rich symbolism behind them. Swallow birds are those that cannot fly for a lengthy period of time. So swallow birds are believed to stay near land.

If a sailor sees a swallow bird, he has the confidence that the land is near and makes his way towards land with great enthusiasm. So swallow tattoos are considered to be the symbols of returning home. The swallow tattoos have great symbolization behind them too. Their stories are pretty interesting. You might have heard of the fact that sailors at sea are generally superstitious. They are often in search of good omen that help them to come back to land. And in this case, the swallow tattoo is the symbol that brings these salty men the peace of mind they so desire. What role does the swallow tattoo fill in your collection of body ink?

With swallow tattoos the meanings to them seem to be a bit muddled out there. A lot of the meanings you can find for such tattoos are the same meanings that you will find for sparrow tattoos and that doesn’t make any sense to me but they are both small birds so maybe that is why the meanings are so similar. Most all the meanings that can be found for swallows relate to sailors one way or the other.

In most cases it deals with either the sparrows showing the sailors the way home or letting them know that land was close by, or it has to do with the sailors getting their own swallow tattoos after having traveled so many thousands of miles by sea. And then getting another after several more thousands of miles, and on and on.

I am not sure anyone really knows the meaning of the swallow tattoos but I would think one can be sure that one of those meanings is freedom. Because these birds can fly very long distances and that can only represent freedom. And perhaps the biggest reason in favor of getting a swallow tattoo is simply because they are totally non-threatening to everyone. And birds are something that pretty much every one likes.

This is another good example of a good mix between a tattoo and a memorial or tribute to someone. This swallow tattoo uses so many colors like red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and black. The inside of the wings is mostly a dark red, with the edges tinted with a light orange color. The outside of the wings are a light blue color, as is the rest of the birds body, and is mixed with a hint of white as if light was shining off of it.

The swallows eye’s are a bright green with a hint of yellow towards the top. The name is tinted with an orange tone and is written in a fancy calligraphy. The halo on the birds head is a golden yellow with a sparkle on the edge, as if its shining. there is a white dot in the birds eyes, as if gleaming. The coloring and shading of this picture is intricate and fancy. A swallow tattoo is a symbol of freedom, and mixing that meaning with theses colors was definitely a good idea. Tattoos with special symbolic meanings that match the colors are always a good idea.
