Sword Tattoos

To many a sword tattoo is a symbol of the warrior. It often indicates military honor and is the representative symbol of courage and honor. But this is not the only meaning of the sword tattoo design. It can also represent strength and freedom and during the Middle Ages it was used as a symbol for the might of God.

Over the years, sword tattoos have had other meanings attributed to them depending on the elements that are used with them.

For example, a flaming sword is often seen as a symbol of purification and represents the human soul free of any impurities that may hold it back. This image is often used to refer to the pure warrior, a soldier who accomplishes his job with pure and admirable intentions.

Of course, there are other sword tattoos that have significantly different meanings. When the sword is shown piercing a hear it can represent the pain of love. When a sword tattoo is paired with a dove it can represent the person’s ability to wage war but his yearning for peace. How the sword tattoo is used ultimately determines what it means symbolically. What will yours say about you or your inner self?
